Important info
Important information for the FibroPlant® or Femilis® IUS user

You should know that FibroPlant® and Femilis® offers no protection against sexual transmitted diseases and if you do not have a long-term, single partner sexual relationship, you should use additional protection, such as condoms. |

Although pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) have been rarely observed, you should see a doctor immediately at the first signs of pelvic infection (stomach pain, painful sex, offensive discharge, fever). |

You can have sexual intercourse as usual but it is advisable to wait 1 or 2 days after FibroPlant® and Femilis® was fitted. If the thread bothers your partner, it can be cut short by your doctor, although the thread often softens after a while. |

Vaginal spotting may last longer. This usually settles down. Spotting is a common side effect of intrauterine hormonal systems and should not worry you. A doctor’s examination may be necessary to exclude any uterine abnormality or improper position of the IUS. |

In about one in four women menstrual bleeding stops completely due to strong suppression of the endometrium. This is normal and is no sign of pregnancy or disease. This should not worry you especially if you had a check-up and everything was normal and if signs of pregnancy are absent (nausea, breast tenderness). If you still worry about a possible pregnancy, you should consult your doctor for a test. |

FibroPlant® and Femilis® can be expelled. Expulsion occurs mainly during the first three months after insertion. Expulsion can increases the risk to become pregnant. It is important to have a check-up examination so that your doctor can verify the proper positioning of your IUS. |

Menstrual-like cramps can occur but these usually settle quickly. Painkillers may be helpful. |
|
You should know that you have a FibroPlant® or Femilis® IUS and that it needs to be replaced after five years. |

Fertility is restored immediately after removal of your FibroPlant® or Femilis® |

Your doctor will discuss any necessary follow-up with you. |
