The possible side-effects of Fibroplant®/Femilis® are:

FibroPlant® and Femilis® have been designed to be easily and safely fitted into your womb. However, each intervention carries a risk of damage to the uterus. When the insertion is done by a trained doctor or nurse, this risk can virtually always be avoided.
Expulsion of FibroPlant® or Femilis® may rarely occur mostly within three months following insertion due to contractions of the womb. Very rarely, an intrauterine system can penetrate in the wall of the uterus and perforate in the abdominal cavity. This may require laparoscopic or surgical removal of the IUS. Follow-up examinations are, therefore, necessary to detect any abnormalities related to the improper position of the IUS in the uterus.
Following the fitting of FibroPlant® or Femilis®, some women may experience painful contractions in the lower abdomen, similar to menstrual pain. Usually these contractions do not last long. Painkillers such as NSAIDs can be useful in case of moderate or severe painful uterine contractions.
Some bleeding/spotting may occur during the first few days/weeks following insertion of the IUS. Continuous vaginal blood loss, however, is rare.
Breast tenderness and bloathing can occur especially during the first weeks after insertion. Acnea can occur. An ovarian cyst can develop in some women. Migraine attacks can rarely occur. These symptoms will mostly disappear. However, if they persist or become worse, you should consult your doctor.
