The design characteristics of the "frameless" IUS makes it a first choice method for many women.
GyneFix
® offers a greater protection than conventional IUDs. In use, GyneFix
® is more effective than the pill (0,1 to 0.5% pregnancies with GyneFix
® against 5% with the Pill after one year of use).
GyneFix
® is of significant value in emergency contraception as it can be inserted up to 5 days following unprotected intercourse and on some occasions even later, and will then provide ongoing contraception. This compares very favourably with hormone-based post-coital pills which only prevent 3 out of 4 pregnancies, and need to be taken within 72 hours.
Following the emergency, GyneFix
® will provide ongoing contraception until it is removed.
